Continuing with our vertebral education, today we'll review T6 and T7, and their role in your health. (If you missed it, last month we discussed T4 and T5 and the organs they affect.
T6 and T7 (Thoracic Vertebrae 6 & 7) sit in the mid-back region, just behind your sternum. These vertebrae not only support posture and rib movement but also protect vital nerve pathways that influence important organs.
T6 connects through spinal nerves to the stomach and part of the digestive system. When T6 is healthy and aligned, digestion tends to function smoothly, with efficient breakdown of food and reduced acid buildup. A misalignment here may contribute to indigestion, heartburn, bloating, or mid-back pain that wraps around the ribs.
T7 lies just below and shares connections with the pancreas, duodenum, and parts of the spleen. Proper function of T7 supports healthy blood sugar regulation, immune response, and nutrient absorption. If T7 shifts out of alignment, patients may notice digestive upset, blood sugar fluctuations, immune weakness, or tightness and discomfort in the mid-back.
Together, T6 and T7 play a crucial role in both structural support and organ health. Misalignments can interrupt communication between the brain and digestive organs, creating systemic issues beyond back pain. Chiropractic care restores proper motion and nerve flow in this region, often leading to improved digestion, better energy, and overall balance.
