As we age, drinking adequate amounts of water becomes increasingly important. Adults 60 and older are at a greater risk of dehydration for a number of reasons, including natural drop in thirst levels, changes in body composition and the likelihood of taking diuretics. And, of course, it’s really hot around here during the summer.
If you are struggling to drink enough water, here are 10 reasons to motivate you:
- Improved Brain Function
- Improved Oxygen Flow via Blood
- More Energy
- Weight management
- Decreased Joint Pain
- Better Temperature Regulation
- Kidney Stone Prevention
- Healthier Heart
- Improved Detoxification
- Fewer Headaches
There is not an exact amount of water to drink daily, but the most prevalent and achievable recommendation is ⅓ of your body weight in ounces per day. If you weigh 150 pounds, then around 50 ounces per day. If you can manage to drink more than that, do it.
Give it a try, you’ll feel a little better and your joints will appreciate it, too!
Stay well adjusted,
Dr. Dan Kammer
