The ‘Quarantine 19’

I'm calling it the "Quarantine 19" - the weight we've gained due to the stay-at-home order and the extra baking we've all been doing while stuck at home. How do I know you've been baking? I know this because there isn't any flour, sugar, or yeast at the grocery stores. Even the frozen pizza aisle is depleted.

The extra weight carried around our torso affects our spine, pulling it out of alignment, putting pressure on the discs, causing pain. Carrying the weight around also puts added strain on our hip joints, knees and ankles. I can help you with the pain, but it's up to you to do the rest.

With the Governor loosening the restrictions and opening the beaches again, it's time to - safely - get outside and start exercising again. Set a goal to lose the added weight in two to four months. Health experts recommend losing no more than two pounds per week.

While all of the baking items and pizzas are flying off the shelves, the grocery store produce section has never looked more abundant. In addition to getting outside and the free exercise resources listed below, try substituting some of those fresh fruits and vegetables instead of picking up another frozen pizza or baking items next time you go to the store. Let's not have scurvy as the disease that follows the current pandemic.

Make a commitment to your health today.

Stay well adjusted,

Dr. Dan Kammer
